In 2025, 20 people were killed and many more suffered serious injuries in 47 serious road traffic accidents on Latvian roads, simply because passive safety rules were not observed – drivers and/or passengers had not fastened their seatbelts. To draw attention to this problem and remind people of the importance of wearing seatbelts, on Tuesday 18 August at 11.00, a seatbelt reminder signal will be broadcast on radio stations and at petrol stations.
