Customs checks at Riga Airport in the first half of this year revealed 1,057 breaches, which is almost as many as in the whole of last year (1,166 cases). There has been a significant increase in breaches of the regulations on the import of cigarettes and alcohol, with quantities exceeding the permitted limits. Similarly, the number of attempts to import narcotic substances has also risen this year – a total of 13 such cases were detected last year, compared with 26 so far this year.
