Due to careless, reckless behaviour, dry grass caught fire on Wednesday in the village of Tutāni, Ludza municipality. A woman living near an apartment building decided to clean up the area. She burned the collected branches and leaves and, as she herself says, could not even imagine that after a gust of wind, sparks would land on the dry grass. The assumption that the fire could be controlled also proved to be mistaken:
